And there is a promising future if we find common ground between the two.
When I explain right-to-repair to people who don't know anything about it, I start with concrete examples. "You should be able to fix your phone or tractor or wheelchair, but companies actually make it harder and more expensive than it needs to be," my typical elevator pitch goes.
Data privacy can be a little bit harder to explain. As conversations over data privacy and surveillance are once again thrust into the spotlight as hand wringing over companies like TikTok, we begin to see the difficulty around communicating about data privacy. So what even is data privacy, and what data is even out there on us? Why should we even be worried about it?
